Wilhelm Wernicke Prize
Through the awarding of the Wilhelm Wernicke Prize, the Hertha BSC Foundation funds initiatives and projects that help young people. That could be through youth projects that focus on sport and culture, or it could be via measures that aim to help young people integrate. Fairness, tolerance and solidarity have always been among the core values in sport. Football brings people together who otherwise never would have met. It puts communal living at the forefront and aims to help us understand one another.
Whether it’s for work with children and teenagers, supporting socially disadvantaged groups, fighting against racism and hatred in sport, or any other similar cause, the annual Wilhelm Wernicke Prize aims to provide an incentive for organisations, projects and/or individuals in the Berlin and Brandenburg area. The hope is that they will engage with society through sporting youth projects.
The Wilhelm Wernicke Prize was brought to life in 2020 as an idea of Hertha BSC Foundation chairman Bernd Schiphorst. It is an important part of Hertha’s social and charitable work. The prize demonstrates the values of the entire club as regards development and diversity. We at Hertha BSC are committed to sustaining fair and sporting cooperation within society.
