Cristian Fiél to be the new head coach of Hertha BSC
Cristian Fiél will be the new head coach of Hertha BSC. The 44-year-old joins from 1. FC Nürnberg to become Pál Dárdai’s successor, putting pen to paper on a contract until 2026. “We’ve been looking for a new coach who plays brave, attacking football, already has 2. Bundesliga experience and wants to develop young players. Cristian matched our philosophy perfectly with his attacking style of play, as well as his direct and honest manner, and we’re very pleased that he’ll be our head coach next season,” said sporting director Benjamin Weber. Managing director Thomas E. Herrich added: “We’ve got our ideal candidate in Cristian. His qualities include developing young players, and he also knows the 2. Bundesliga better than anyone.” The new head coach himself, who will take over at the end of June, said. “I was only recently at the Olympiastadion with Nürnberg, for an evening game in front of a full house. It was an amazing experience. Everyone knows how huge this club is. I’m delighted to be the head coach here now.”
Fiél will be accompanied by his assistant Jaime Monroy. Our goalkeeping coach Andreas Menger and athletic coaches Henrik Kuchno and Henrik Vieth will also remain on the coaching staff.
The Esslingen-born man was in charge of Nürnberg during the 2023/24 season. He was previously head coach of FCN’s U23 side from summer 2021 and then Dieter Hecking’s assistant from February 2023. After retiring as a player, Fiél began his coaching journey in the youth set-up at SG Dynamo Dresden. After a short spell as interim boss, the former midfielder finally got his chance as head coach from February to December 2019, leading SGD to survival in the 2. Bundesliga.
