Additional time goal as Hertha lose 1-0 to Wiesbaden
Pál Dárdai made two changes for the first home game of the season, bringing in Jonjoe Kenny and Palkó Dárdai for the injured Marten Winkler and Deyovaisio Zeefuik. New signings Tabaković, Anderson Lucoqui and Gustav Christensen were all on the bench.
Christensen makes couple of crucial saves
Hertha started in a 4-2-3-1 but found it hard to break down Wiesbaden’s defence, with the most noticeable chance falling to Fabian Reese after a counter, but his shot was parried wide by SVWW goalkeeper Sieger (23’). At the other end, Christensen was called upon to make important saves from Florian Carstens and Thijmen Goppel to keep Hertha level (2’, 13’). Niederlechner had to go off injured near the end of the first half, with Tabaković coming on for his debut (43’).
Kick in the teeth in additional time
Anderson Lucoqui made his debut at the start of the second half, replacing Jeremy Dudziak. It was Hertha who then had the better chances, with Tabaković smashed a volley into the bar from close range (56’). The ‘Old Lady’ then thought they had won a penalty for handball, but it was chalked off by Florian Lechner after he had looked at the VAR screen (59’). Dárdai made a couple of attacking changes, bringing on Bence Dárdai and Smail Prevljak, who was making his debut.
There was a late, late setback, though, with a corner only cleared as far as Lasse Günther on the edge of the box, who drilled a shot off both posts and finally in, meaning Hertha came away empty handed despite all their hard work (90+2’).

Match reaction
Marco Richter: It was a really strange game. We worked hard from the beginning but yet again were just missing that final pass or the target. I can understand the frustration from the fans at the end – we have to step up our game and deal with this ourselves on the pitch. There is definitely enough quality in the squad to do that.
