Two wins from two in pre-season

Pál Dárdai set up with a 4-2-3-1 formation at the Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Sportpark. His starting XI included eight Berlin-born players, including goalkeeper Marius Gersbeck. Deyovaisio Zeefuik (right-back) and Wilfried Kanga (striker) appeared for the first time in pre-season.

Myziane with the best chance of a goalless first half

The hosts had the first chance of the evening, but Gersbeck was on hand to keep out a low shot in the second minute. Hertha’s first opportunity came four minutes later from a nice attack involving Zeefuik and Tony Rölke. The BFC Dynamo defence were able to put off Myziane as he looked to score (6’). Bence Dárdai had a shot blocked (12’) and then Gersbeck caught a long-range effort at the other end (16’). Myziane had the next chance after half an hour, with his strike flying just past the post from a decent position.

Two goals from substitutes

Our coach introduced Jeremy Dudziak, Marten Winkler and Derry Scherhant for the second half. The first opportunity after the break was again for the home team, though Gersbeck was once again able to deny them (48’). Substitute Winkler broke the deadlock after 54 minutes, firing a shot past the BFC Dynamo goalkeeper for 1-0. Scherhant then rounded their shot-stopper two minutes later and kept his cool to double Hertha’s lead (56’). Pál Dárdai made a further seven changes shortly afterwards. Among these new faces on the pitch were Fabian Reese and Márton Dárdai, who combined for the next chance. Dárdai’s shot from distance fizzed just past the goal (64’). Despite further promising attacks in the final 25 minutes, it finished 2-0 at the Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Sportpark.

“It was a game of two halves against a well-prepared opponent. The lads played well together in the first half, but we started better after the break and you could see how much the lads were enjoying it towards the end. We have to improve our final ball at times, but we’ve got time to do that,” summed up coach Dárdai. Hertha are back in action tomorrow against BSC Young Boys in Biel. Kick off in Switzerland is at 16:00 CEST.
