“We now have to keep going like this!”
The Blue-Whites picked up a point against a Europa League side in the 1-1 draw with Freiburg. It was an important point in the fight for survival, an important away point after a run of poor away performances. This was also how Prince Boateng, making his first start since the first day of the season, saw it. “We set out to show a completely different side of us to the one in Hoffenheim. There was a series of mistakes for their goal, but we didn’t give up. Team spirit, fight, everyone was there for one another and we also had fun playing – the way it should be. We knew what was riding on this game, but didn’t let that restrict us,“ said Hertha’s number 27 before continuing: “In the end, we are happy to pick up a point, which is also good for morale, even if with our chances it also could have been all three.” herthabsc.com has all the immediate reaction to the game in Freiburg.
Prince Boateng: I was happy to have played from the start. I thank the coach for that. He told me to help the team in possession and to organise and push the boys out of possession. We set out to show a completely different side of us to the one in Hoffenheim. I think the first half was our best away from home this season. There was a series of mistakes for their goal, but we didn’t give up and kept our heads and kept on fighting. Team spirit, fight, everyone was there for one another and we also had fun playing – the way it should be. We knew what was riding on this game, but didn’t let that restrict us. In the end, we are happy to pick up a point, which is also good for morale, even if with our chances it also could have been all three. I promise that this in Freiburg, with our fans behind us, is Hertha BSC. This is how it will also be in the next eight games because we have eight finals ahead of us.

Jessic Ngankam: We prepared well for the game and were very motivated. I think you saw that on the pitch. We also had a little bit luck in this game for once – if we had a bit more maybe we would’ve also got that second goal. With my goal, it was a normal tackle, we’re playing football not ballet (grins). We are in a relegation battle so it is about fighting for every point! We now have to keep going like this, take it up another notch and give everything to pick up points again in the coming weeks. Home games are always just brilliant; the coach will set us up well to pick up more points.
Dodi Lukébakio: Obviously, we would’ve preferred to pick up three points, but we can still be pleased about this important point. Now, we have a game at home which we can take the positives from this one into. The chance I missed is obviously annoying, but that unfortunately can happen in football. I just hope that I can do better in the next game. As a team, we want to keep working together and had good periods in this game. Now we want to win our next home game together!
