Davie Selke departs Hertha BSC
Davie Selke will continue playing in the Bundesliga after the winter break, but no longer with the Hertha flag on his chest. The forward is leaving the capital after five and a half years to join 1. FC Köln. Both clubs agreed on the transfer on Monday (02.01.23). “We have always spoken openly with Davie about his situation and his contract with us, which ends in the summer. He had the opportunity to move within the Bundesliga during this transfer window, and we have agreed to his wishes,” explained Fredi Bobic regarding the player’s departure.
Our managing director for sport highlighted the forward’s exemplary work during his time with the club: “Davie acted impeccably at all times and always gave his all for Hertha BSC. We would like to thank him for his commitment to the club and wish him and his family all the best. There will certainly be an opportunity in the future to say goodbye to our fans at a home game at the Olympiastadion,” said the 51-year-old. Selke himself added: “Berlin is a special city for me and my family. This was the longest stint I have had in professional football so far and Berlin has become our home. My time at Hertha was special, particularly because of the fans who have always supported me unconditionally. For that, I would like to thank every single fan at Hertha. But for me, the time has come for a change.”
126 games with the Hertha flag on his chest
The 27-year-old joined the club from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2017. Since then, Selke has gone on to make 126 competitive appearances for Hertha, scoring 26 times. The right-footed player laced up his boots 114 times in total for the Blue-Whites in the Bundesliga (19 goals), rounding off his tally with 9 games in the DFB-Pokal (3 goals) and a further 3 appearances in the UEFA Europa League (4 goals). Between January 2020 and summer of 2021, the centre-forward played for SV Werder Bremen on loan.
