Maxi Mittelstädt signs a new contract
Maximilian Mittelstädt has proudly donned the Hertha colours since 2012, and will be staying put for a few more years. The academy product, who has been playing for the first team since 2015, has extended his contract until 2027. “We all know what we have in Maxi. He’s a reliable left-back who can also contribute to our attack,” praised Fredi Bobic. “Maxi is a great representative of our club and a role model for our academy players, who are seeking to follow the same path he has. We’re very pleased to be able to continue working together in the future.”

Third-longest serving player in the current squad
The 25-year-old is the third-longest serving player at the club currently, and made no secret of his joy at having extended his contract. “I don’t have to say how important a role Hertha BSC have played in my life. I came here as a small, inexperienced boy and now I come here every day as a full-fledged Bundesliga player excited to get to work,” said the Berlin native about his connection to the 'Old Lady'. The unwavering support from the fans has also played a role in his decision to stay. “Even though there have been some tough times, I always felt the backing of the club’s management and the fans,” he said. “That also helps motivate me to give everything for our club every single day!”
From the academy to the Bundesliga
The defender joined the club’s academy as a 15-year-old from Hertha 03 Zehlendorf. In addition to playing his first games in the U19 and U17 Bundesliga, Mittelstädt was also part of the U19s team that won the Youth DFB-Pokal on home turf at the Wurfplatz/Amateurstadion in 2015. That same year, he signed his first professional contract. Since then, Mittelstädt has gone on to make 135 Bundesliga appearances for Hertha (2 goals, 15 assists). He has also featured in eight DFB-Pokal (2 goals, 1 assist) and three Europa League games (3 assists). ‘Maxi,’ as he’s known, also played for Germany at the U18, U19, U20 and U21 level, picking up valuable international experience at various World and European youth championships. He was part of the squad who finished runners-up in the 2019 U21 European Championship in San Marino and Italy.
