"I’m fuming."
To concede a late goal is always frustrating, especially when it decides the outcome of the game. The reaction of the players when speaking about the game in the face of a late 1-0 loss against Werder Bremen reflects this. “I’m fuming,” said Marvin Plattenhardt, making his feelings known, “Both teams fought hard and dug in. There weren’t clear chances for either side. Really it should’ve finished 0-0.” Marco Richter was also critical of the way the team played, but was also already looking ahead to the game against Bayern (05.11.22, 15:30 CET). “We were just not good enough, which is down to us. Still, we can’t be down for too long and have to keep our heads up. Then, next week we go again.” herthabsc.com has the initial reaction to the loss in Bremen.
Marvin Plattenhardt: I’m fuming. Both teams fought hard and dug in. There weren’t clear chances for either side. Offensively, we lost the ball too much, especially in transition. We still had a few decent shots, and with a bit of luck one of those goes in. Really it should’ve finished 0-0 and near the end we conceded a frustrating goal and have come away empty handed. It's annoying.
Marco Richter: From my perspective it was a classic, scrappy 0-0. There weren’t many big chances for either side. With the form Niclas Füllkrug is in at the moment, it just happens to go in. But we also should have defended it better: There was no pressure on the ball from out wide, we had to do better challenging for the ball into the middle. We knew what to expect going to play on a Friday night under the floodlights in Bremen. We took on the challenge well and held out against them. Unfortunately, we were just not good enough, which is down to us. Still, we can’t be down for too long and have to keep our heads up. Then, next week we go again.

Oliver Christensen: We put in a good away performance, but were just lacking that slice of luck. If we played the game ten times, nine of them would end in a draw – a classic 0-0. Obviously, it is frustrating to have conceded a goal so late on. But overall as a team we have to do better. Although we are frustrated at the moment, there are still lessons we can take from the game. We would not have been unhappy with a point and Bremen would probably say the same. Nevertheless, we are on the right path.
Marc Kempf: In the first half, we gave the ball away too much, after half time in my view we clearly played much better and how the game went agrees with that. Unfortunately, we were lacking that cutting edge in the final third and at times we made it too complicated. A point would definitely have been deserved considering the effort we put in. The header is not a gilt-edge chance – it is always about getting that little bit of luck. Perhaps we lost a bit of our structure because of the substitutions just before. I didn’t challenge for the ball brilliantly, which is frustrating.
Niklas Stark (Weder Bremen): Obviously, it was a really emotional meeting for me, I don’t have to explain that. In certain situations, I felt that it maybe helped a little to know my opponents. Before the game though, I tried not to think too much about the particular nature of the game and tried to approach it professionally. Of course I still follow how Hertha are doing, and have got the sense that there is an optimistic feeling around the club. I am pleased for my old club about that.
