“We came out differently for the second half”
The phrase “All good things come in threes” is something every Herthaner hoped would not be true on Sunday as they faced TSG Hoffenheim. For the third time in a row, the Blue-Whites shared the points, drawing 1-1 with the Baden-Württemberg side. The result means Sandro Schwarz’s side are four games without defeat, but are yet to secure their first three points at the Olympiastadion this season. “Just one point is not enough given the second half we’ve had, but at the same time Hoffenheim had a good few chances in the first half. All in all, the draw was the right result,” evaluated goalkeeper Oliver Christensen. Captain Marvin Plattenhardt gave his account of an improved second-half performance: “We came out differently for the second half and played in Hoffenheim’s half more. You could see that we wanted to complete the comeback and win,” said the number 21. All the reaction to the game is here on herthabsc.com.
Marvin Plattenhardt: We kept trying to press our opponents high up the pitch, and that’s what got us the equaliser. Despite that, I think we weren’t in the rhythm of the game in large parts of the first half. We came out differently for the second half and played in Hoffenheim’s half more. You could see that we wanted to complete the comeback and win. We need to keep working on certain things over the next few weeks and perhaps play one or two things out a bit better, especially the final pass. Three points would’ve done us a lot of good today, but one point is better than nothing.
Dodi Lukébakio: We made another step forward as a team today, as we didn’t lose the game – that was very important! Draws are always better than losses. There are a lot of positives we can take with us, which gives us hope. Of course we have to do some things better but there’s no reason to be in a negative mood. Next week we have another important game in front of us, where we’ll try and get our first home win again. Our play together in attack is getting better and better. Chidi [Ejuke], Willy [Kanga] and I have a really good connection between one another.

Oliver Christensen: Just one point is not enough given the second half we’ve had, but at the same time Hoffenheim had a good few chances in the first half. All in all, the draw was the right result. We were missing that final moment in attack. If we manage to do better there, then there will definitely be more points for us to come. I’m delighted for Agu [Agustin Rogel], too – he had a great debut.
