Davie Selke and Marco Richter celebrate together
First team | September 4, 2022, 06:14 PM

"We have finally been rewarded with a win!"

You could hear the relief in the ground and it was there for all to see. As referee Harm Osmers blew his whistle for full time at 17:22 CEST, Hertha celebrated a 2-0 win against Augsburg, the first win of the season. The team can travel back home with three points in the bag. “This was a deserved win; we wanted it from the first minute. In the last weeks you can see us developing, we have kept getting better, but despite our hard work we haven’t taken our chances. So, this is an important three points – also for morale,” said Marvin Plattenhardt, the assister for Lukébakio’s opening goal. The second goal which confirmed the win, was scored by Marco Richter, of all people, against his former club. “We took our chances well and kept a clean sheet at the back. For me personally, my goal was obviously the icing on the cake, but I am mostly pleased for the team, because we have finally been rewarded with a win,” said Hertha’s number 23. herthabsc.com has the immediate reaction.

Marvin Plattenhardt: We are overjoyed that we were able to get the three points. This was a deserved win; we wanted it from the first minute. In the last weeks you can see us developing, we have kept getting better, but despite our hard work we haven’t taken our chances, which has cost us points. So, this is an important three points – also for morale. But, there are still always small things that we can do better. I hope that this win can kick start our season.

At the end of the day, I am pleased that my goal helped us to get the three points. I am hoping that we can continue in the same way.

Dodi Lukébakio: That was very, very important for us. We expected the game to be like this, showed a good mentality and got three points. I am happy that I was able to help the team with my goal and try to score as often as possible. I am not the best at heading, but I have been working on it and it has paid off in the game (smiles). Marco scored a beautiful goal – a great finish, a great moment! We are all really pleased for him. We have a good atmosphere in the team, work well with the coaching team and have to keep doing that week after week. This is just the start, but this win feels good and gives us self-confidence. Now, we are looking forward to the home game against Leverkusen!

Marco Richter: We managed to pick up three points from a very competitive game. We took our chances well and kept a clean sheet at the back. For me personally, my goal was obviously the icing on the cake, but I am mostly pleased for the team, because we have finally been rewarded with a win! For the 2-0, Davie Selke spotted me in the middle and squared it. It was a very, very nice counter. The last few weeks have been really nice, I’ve had important support from my family, the team and the fans. Now I just want to play football. At the end of the day, I am pleased that my goal helped us to get the three points. I am hoping that we can continue in the same way.

Oliver Christensen: We knew that we had to pick up points against Augsburg. That we got three points makes this Sunday even more pleasing. It has been a difficult time for Marco Richter. His goal was a great moment! The play from Davie Selke shows that as a team we all wish him all the best and were unbelivably happy for him.
