“I am pleased to be able to be here again”
Marco Richter is back on the pitch! On Monday Hertha’s number 23 initially walked onto the pitch at the Olympic Park wearing flip-flops in order to allow the attending journalists their first glimpse of the player since 12 July. Immediately before the planned departure for the training camp in England, the 24 year old had received the news that a testicular tumour would have to be removed via an operation. The procedure that followed went without any issues. Scans after the operation revealed that further treatment via Chemotherapy is not necessary. “I am pleased to be able to be here again. It was a hard time, in which I received a lot of encouragement, which also happened at the Fan Festival. That was something really special, I had one or two tears in my eyes and am extremely thankful”, explained Richter, who a little later returned to the Schenckendorff pitch with his boots on and trained individually with the help of fitness coach Hendrik Vieth. At what point the forward will be able to train with his teammates again remains to be seen. “I am being cautious and won’t say that tomorrow everything is back to normal. Instead I am seeing how it goes day by day. If everything goes well then it should not be too long”, suggested Richter, looking forward to the upcoming weeks.
