Agustín Rogel joins Hertha
On Wednesday, Agustín Rogel put pen to paper on a contract till 2026, strengthening Hertha’s defensive options. The defender, who will wear the number 3 shirt, joins from Argentinean top division side Estudiantes de la Plata. “Agustín has a lot of presence on the pitch, with his way of playing and the fact he is 1.91m tall. He is strong in duels, plays with enthusiasm and has a great mentality, which other players can feed off. As a result, we are happy that he has decided to take the next step in his career here at Hertha,” commented Fredi Bobic. Valuable international experience & a U20 title
The defender began his professional career at Club Nacional in his home city of Montevideo in 2017. Within a month of his debut in the Uruguayan top flight, he had also appeared in the Copa Libertadores. In 2018, Rogel made the jump to playing European football, signing for PFK Krylja Sowetow Samara. With his performances for the club in the Russian first division, the South American attracted the attention of FC Toulouse, who brought him to Ligue 1 in 2019. After a year and a half in France, the 24-year-old moved to Argentina, signing for Estudiantes de la Plata initially on loan, before joining on a permanent deal. Rogel became a mainstay in defence for the Argentinean side, appearing in 72 competitive games. During this time, he also made an impact at the other end, scoring eight times as well as recording three assists. Alongside this, the centre back has valuable experience playing for Uruguay’s U20’s, winning the U20 South American Championship in 2017 and helping the team to fourth place in the U20 World Cup in South Korea. In total, the new signing has made 18 appearances for Uruguay’s U20’s.
