Hertha BSC sign Wilfried Kanga
Wilfried Kanga has joined our capital-city club from Swiss side BSC Young Boys, with the Frenchman putting pen to paper on a deal which runs until 2026. “We’re really pleased that we’ve been able to make Wilfried Kanga a Hertha player. His size, physical presence, speed and his goal-hungry attitude means that we’ve signed a striker who fits well into the style of football that we’d like to play,” Fredi Bobic had nothing but praise for our latest signing, who will wear the number 18 shirt for Hertha. Kanga is looking forward to getting started at the club: “Hertha’s the club that most wanted me and that gave me the feeling that I’m needed here. It’s a great club, and I really feel as though I can develop as a player here!”
Süper Lig, Super League – Champions League
Originally from Montreuil in France, Kanga joined PSG’s youth academy at the age of 12 and spent six years there, before going out on loan to US Créteil-Lusitanos, who were playing in the third tier at the time. He was a regular starter there, and following the one-year loan spell, Kanga secured a move to first-division side SCO Angers. He made 33 appearances in Ligue 1 and three cup appearances during his three years at the club, scoring three goals. In 2020, the Frenchman, with Ivorian roots, made his first move abroad, as he moved to Turkish first-division side Kayserispor, for whom scored three goals in 15 league and cup appearances. Following this came a move to BSC Young Boys, and the striker made a total of 35 appearances for the Bern-based side, scoring 18 times and registering six assists. Some of these appearances came on the international stage: Kanga has played a total of nine times in the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Conference League. In terms of international football, Kanga has made one appearance for Ivory Coast U20s and four appearances for France U20s.
