Prince Boateng extends his contract with Hertha!

Back home: last summer, Prince Boateng made a return to his old stomping ground, back to where it all started for him 28 years ago. Today, that return continues – at Hertha BSC! Berlin-born Prince has extended his contract until June 2023 and will don the blue and white of Hertha next season. “The relegation play-off proved to us just how important Prince is for our team, and he didn’t show it just then. He’s our leader, getting stuck in and pushing everyone else along with him. We’ll need players just like that next season,” said director of sport Fredi Bobic on Wednesday, as the contract was signed. Our number 27 himself is also happy: “I’ve always said how special and valuable this club is to me, and tried to show it both off and on the pitch. I feel good, I’m hungry to get going and excited to keep going forward with the lads.”

Berlin and back, via England, Italy and Spain

Prince Boateng joined Hertha’s youth academy aged just seven and came through the ranks, until he finally made the step to the first team in 2005. Following 53 appearances in all competitions, five goals and nine assists, the attacking midfielder joined Tottenham Hotspur in 2007. A loan move to Borussia Dortmund and then a spell at Portsmouth came next, before moving to Italy and winning the Scudetto with AC Milan in 2011. A move to Genoa followed, and Prince then returned to Germany with FC Schalke 04. Following this move, he joined UD Las Palmas in La Liga, before joining Eintracht Frankfurt in 2017 and, together with Bobic, won the 2018 DFB-Pokal at the Olympiastadion. Following this success, Prince then moved back to Italy for spells at Sassuolo and Fiorentina, with a six-month loan at FC Barcelona in between, where he won La Liga and stretched his Champions League appearance tally to 33. These moves were followed by a short deals at Besiktas and AC Monza, before a return in June 2021 to his boyhood club, Hertha BSC.
