Schwolow joins Schalke 04 on loan

Alexander Schwolow will not be a part of Hertha’s pre-season preparations, which are due to get underway next week. The club can announce that the 30-year-old goalkeeper will be loaned to Schalke 04 for the 2022/23 campaign. “We came to the joint decision that this move makes sense for both parties. Alex has been of great service to the team, despite some difficult periods. We wish him nothing but the best,” explained Fredi Bobic.

The former Germany youth international joined Hertha from SC Freiburg in 2020 and made a total of 55 competitive appearances for the Old Lady. Schwolow, who had been with Freiburg since the U17s, also spent the 2014/15 season on loan at Arminia Bielefeld. The goalkeeper’s CV boasts 175 appearances in the Bundesliga and 33 in the second tier. He has also made 15 appearances in the DFB-Pokal.
