Filip Uremović joins Hertha BSC
Our first new signing ahead of the 2022/23 season has put pen to paper! Filip Uremović will join on a free transfer from Russian first-division side Rubin Kazan. The 25-year-old Croatia international spent the last two months on loan at Championship side Sheffield United. Uremović, who can play at centre-back and right-back, has signed a deal until 2026 and will wear the number 5 shirt for Hertha. “We have been able to sign a strong player in Filip Uremović, one that has been able to pick up valuable experience in several different leagues despite his young age. In addition to his versatility, we are also impressed by his tough-tackling nature as well as the leadership qualities he has shown on the pitch, having been captain at his former club. We are very happy that Filip has decided to move to Berlin,” said sporting director Fredi Bobic. Uremović is also looking forward to a new challenge, saying “I want to take the next step in my career, continue to improve and help the team, which is why I am here.”
Uremović was born in Požega and began his career at NK Papuk Velika and HNK Cibalia Vinkovci, before moving to Dinamo Zagreb in 2016. The 1.84m tall defender featured for the club’s reserves before moving to NK Olimpija Ljubljana in 2018. After a six-month spell in Slovenia, where he won the domestic double, Uremović moved to Rubin Kazan. He went on to make 97 competitive appearances (1 goal), captaining the side in several matches. At the end of March, Uremović was able to move to Sheffield United on loan until the end of the season under FIFA’s special transfer window, following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. He has been capped six times for Croatia, having also featured for the U21s (9 games) and U19s (5 games). Welcome to Berlin, Filip Uremović!
