Time to roll up the sleeves
Tayfun Korkut didnt feel like wearing his winter jacket. In the bright sunshine, the coach strode over to the sidelines, threw his garment onto the grass and went back to his team in the centre of the pitch, the sleeves of his training jumper rolled up. Animated and full of energy, the coach was barking out his instructions. The positive energy that the coach radiated was also expressed through the numerous commands he was giving to his team: “Everybody move! Everyone must want the ball!” was heard ringing out across the training ground. “There was a real fire in people’s bellies out there today. But we need to stop talking about it and actually deliver!” said David Selke after the 80 minute session.
Crossing, shooting, scoring goals
The session started with an extensive warm-up and ended with sprints. After the traditional rondo, the team went into a game situation. In this exercise, the wide players put crosses into dangerous areas in the box marked out by poles. The focus was on crossing and the movement of the strikers in the box. The Hertha players were impressive throughout the exercise and Selke, Lucas Tousart, Marco Richter and Co. found the net time and time again. Richter emphasised how much he enjoyed the session as he left the field: “That was really cool. It was back and forth and was a lot of fun. That’s exactly what we have to bring to the game on Saturday against Mönchengladbach. There can’t be any more excuses”.
Schwolow returns – Prince absent
Alexander Schwolow returned to training for the first time after contracting COVID-19 and got stuck into the session with his fellow team mates. Kevin-Prince Boateng was however absent due to muscular problems. Rune Jarstein and Kélian Nsona are still in recovery.
The four goalkeepers and 22 outfield players trained with one goal in-mind: “We have to get everyone to come together as a team. Everyone has to run for each other and pull together to make sure we stay in the division!” said a determined Selke after the session. The players don’t have a second to lose before we visit Borussia Mönchengladbach this Saturday (18:30 CET).
