Linus Gechter signs a long-term contract extension until 2025!
Hertha BSC continue to place trust in players from the academy. Linus Gechter signed a professional contract running until 2025 on Thursday. “Despite his age, Linus has shown his massive potential in both training and in Bundesliga matches too. We will continue to assist his development and we believe that he can be an important member of our team in the coming years,” commented Fredi Bobic. “Linus is another example of a player making it to the first team from our academy. He can be a role model for the number of talented players in our youth teams,” added Bobic. The 18-year-old centre-back was delighted with his new contract: “I’ve grown up at this club and it’s clear to me every day that they believe in me here. My short-term aim is to avoid relegation with the team, whilst in the long run, I want to impress more and more and get as much game time as possible.”
The Berlin-born defender joined our academy from Hertha 03 Zehlendorf in 2015 and quickly showed his potential. He made his debut for the Germany U16 national team in 2019 and then was called up to their U18s two years later. Having been invited to first-team training on several occasions, the defender finally got his chance to play in Germany’s top flight and took it last September, aged just 17. Since then, he’s made eight further appearances in the Bundesliga and even scored his first goal against Fürth in February.
