Hertha BSC sign Marc Oliver Kempf
Marc Oliver Kempf has become our second January signing. The 26-year-old has joined us from VfB Stuttgart, signing a contract until 2026. “Marc Oliver Kempf is an established and experienced centre-back in the Bundesliga, who has proven his quality over the years. We’re pleased that we’ve been able to convince him to move to Berlin. His presence, leadership qualities and mentality will definitely benefit us,” commented Fredi Bobic on Tuesday. The new signing was also pleased about his move to the capital: “I’m looking forward to playing for Hertha, meeting my new teammates and being in Berlin. I want to help the team out with my style of play and experience, so that the club can continue developing in the way that Fredi Bobic outlined last summer. After three and half a years in Stuttgart, I’m now excited for a new challenge,” said the defender, who will wear the number 20.
110 Bundesliga games without a red card
The left-footed defender, born in Lich, began his career at Eintracht Frankfurt’s academy. Following five years with the Eagles’ youth sides, he made the step up to the first team in 2012. The former Germany youth international, who represented his country from the U16s all the way up to the U21s, then joined SC Freiburg two years later. He played 73 times in all competitions for SCF (seven goals, three assists), before signing for VfB Stuttgart. Overall, Kempf featured 96 times in competitive matches for the Swabians, scoring nine goals and registering five assists. One interesting statistic about Kempf is that he has never been shown a red card in his 110 games in the Bundesliga. Hertha BSC is now his fourth club in the German top flight – welcome to Berlin!
