Berlin derby in DFB-Pokal Round of 16!
A very special draw for the round of 16! After a hard-fought win at SC Preußen Münster, our Herthaner qualified for the next round of the DFB-Pokal. The team and our fans found out their upcoming opponents on Sunday evening – and this tie is one that has it all!
“A dream draw and a day of celebration for Berlin”
1. FC Union Berlin will face Hertha at our home, the Olympiastadion, on either the 18th or 19th of January for a ticket into the quarter finals. “It’s a dream draw and a day of celebration for Berlin. It would have made for a brilliant final, but it’s been drawn now. We’ll do all we can to make it a special evening for every Herthaner,” said head coach Pál Dárdai on the draw, which was done by Peter Zimmermann, the CEO of SG Ahrtal, who were badly affected by the flooding earlier on in 2021. “It’s a great draw for the city! We're really excited to be facing Union, but we're well aware of their quality. We want to get into the quarter final with the fans behind us,” enthused sporting director Arne Friedrich. The exact date and time of the tie will be set by the German Football Federation (DFB) in the following days.
After trips to Meppen and Münster, this tie will be our first at home in the Pokal this season. If we progress to the quarter final, it will take place on either the 1st or 2nd of March, with the final four facing off on the 19th and 20th of April. The final, in our own Olympiastadion, will take place on the 21st of May.
