Jonas Michelbrink signs a professional contract
Youngster Jonas Michelbrink signed his first professional contract at Hertha on Monday. The deal will run until 2023. “Jonas made his Bundesliga debut last season and continued to develop in pre-season with the first team. He’s already one of the key performers for the U23s, and we’re certain that he’s not yet fulfilled his potential. We will continue to support him on his journey,” said Fredi Bobic. “I’m really happy and proud that the club has shown this confidence in me. I want to improve every day here and take my chance,” commented the 20-year-old.
The Hannover-born midfielder joined our academy in 2014 from FSV Berolina Stralau. The former Germany U17s international has since worked his way up through our youth teams to our U23s. During his time with the U19s, he featured in the Bundesliga, the DFB-Pokal and the UEFA Youth League. Overall, he featured 78 times for our U17s and U19s, scoring 10 goals and assisting a further nine. Our academy product appeared for the first time in the Bundesliga at the end of last season, coming off the bench at Schalke and at home against Köln. Michelbrink has played 19 times in the Regionalliga for Hertha U23s, registering one goal and three assists to date.
