Jurgen Ekkelenkamp joins Hertha BSC
Hertha BSC have announced their third new signing this week, after having already added Ishak Belfodil and Oliver Christensen to their ranks. Jurgen Ekkelenkamp will join the 'Old Lady' from Ajax, penning a deal running until 2025. "It's no secret that we've been watching Jurgen for a while. We are pleased that we have been able to come to a mutually satisfactory agreement. Jurgen will help bolster our attack with his talent," said Hertha's managing director for sport, Fredi Bobic. The 21-year-old, who has been capped at youth level for the Netherlands, is looking forward to making the move to Berlin. "I'm very happy that the move has now gone through. It took a while, but now I'm very pleased to be here. Hertha are a great club and the Bundesliga is a very entertaining competition. On top of that, Berlin is a nice city," he said.
Ekkelenkamp, who will wear the number 10 jersey for the ‘Old Lady’, joined the renowned youth academy of the Dutch record champions at 13 years of age, quickly catching the attention through his performances and going on to represent his country at every youth level from U15 onwards. In five appearances for the Netherlands U21 side, the attacking midfielder has scored three goals. His club debut for Ajax in the Eredivisie came in April 2018, a year before his debut in the UEFA Champions League. Ekkelenkamp has made a total of 40 appearances for Ajax, scoring six goals and providing five assists, helping his side lift two Dutch league titles and one cup trophy.
