Suat Serdar completes move to Hertha BSC
Hertha BSC's first summer signing has put pen to paper, with Suat Serdar making the move to the capital city. The 24-year-old midfielder joins from Schalke 04 and has signed a long-term deal until 2026. "Suat is a skilled player with the ability to control a game from midfield and who can serve for surprise. Although he is coming off a difficult season, he has a lot of potential and strength, which have allowed him to become a full Germany international already. He will add flexibility and momentum to our midfield,' said Fredi Bobic. "I knew right away that I wanted to join Hertha BSC. The club presented me with a clear plan that convinced me. I want to do my part to ensure that this season is successful," said Serdar, who will wear the No. 8 shirt at Hertha.
Debut at 18 – four caps for Germany
Serdar joined the Mainz 05 academy as an 11 year old, and quickly proved to be a talented youngster. Serdar made 39 appearances (7 goals) at the youth level for Germany, moving through the ranks to the U21s. He made his Bundesliga debut in 2015/16 at 18, and went on to feature in 54 competitive games for Mainz, including four in the UEFA Europa League. Three years later, he joined Schalke 04. Serdar, who can play both defensive and attacking mid, then received his first senior Germany call up in autumn 2019. Serdar made four appearances for Joachim Löw's side until September 2020. He featured in 71 Bundesliga games for the Royal Blues, scoring 10 goals and setting up four. He also appeared in five DFB-Pokal matches with the club (1 goal, 1 assist) as well as seven UEFA Champions League matches (1 assist).
