Márton Dárdai signs a new contract!

Márton Dárdai has had a busy few weeks in the capital. He was handed his first start for the club, registered his first assist in Mainz and is a big part of Hertha’s fight for Bundesliga survival, plus he had to quarantine for two weeks like the rest of the players. The Berlin-born defender has now signed a new contract running until 2025. “Márton is a Herthaner through and through. He’s another example of the great work being done by our academy. He has shown his huge potential in his first Bundesliga campaign so far, so we’re really pleased that he will remain a part of the Hertha family in the coming years,” commented sporting director Arne Friedrich. “I’ve been at Hertha since I was 10. My dream was always to become a professional here, which is why I immediately knew that I wanted to stay at the club. I want to continue developing here and I’m excited for the future,” said a pleased Dárdai after signing his new deal.

The centre-back joined Hertha’s academy in 2012 from 1. FC Wilmersdorf and worked his way up through the academy teams. Dárdai played for both the U17s and U19s, while also representing Germany at various youth levels (17 caps, 1 goal in total). Márton, one of head coach Pál’s three sons, has been in the first-team squad since early 2020. He was part of six squads last season, before making his debut in the 3-0 away win at Augsburg in November 2020. Since then, the tall defender has played nine more times, assisting one goal in the 1-1 draw at Mainz.
